I logged in to write a post, and they changed the layout. Looks nice! It sort of reminds me of the Pownce UI.
The weekend went by really quickly. I went to the Legislative District Caucuses on Saturday. What a mess! I really feel sorry for the volunteers who had to work under the elected secretary of the caucus. Why? Because he is a first class bag of butts. From the moment of check-in (at 9:30AM), to the end of the meeting (6PM- over two hours late), we were mired in rules and regulations.
There simply has to be a better way of running a meeting like that. Most of our time was taken up by having to wait for “reports” to be compiled. I’m talking over four hours of our time was spent being placated by the local secretary while they got the reports ready. Could we skip ahead to items farther down the agenda to make things more efficient? NO! Of course not! In all, three of the reports had to be made before we could get down to the real business of electing new delegates from our number to go to the county caucus. Proposals to streamline the process were ruled out as being “out of order” by the Parliamentarian and the Secretary. I had to leave at 4:20 to get to work on time. At that point they had still not elected the alternates for the county convention.
Now, I know there has to be rules. If there aren’t any, then we run into regularity problems when it comes to actually tallying delegates. What I don’t understand is the apparent total lack of leeway given to the groups running the caucuses. Good, pragmatic, solutions to making the process easier were just thrown to the side. Needless to say, I view the Primary method in a much more positive light.
After that craziness, I went to work until close. After that: VIKING PARTY. It was fun: low key, with spiced mead. I also had some good cheese and nice onions and turkey.
Sunday was a bit slower. We went to church, then did things around the house for the remainder of the afternoon. The evening was spent dining with the ‘rents. Now I’m here, tip-typing away until I feel tired.
